Where our information comes from
Facts about birds — identification, diet, behaviour, nesting, conservation status — are checked against established UK sources: the RSPB, the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), the Woodland Trust, the Wildlife Trusts, and the RHS where gardening overlaps. Where a claim matters, we cite it so you can check for yourself.
We don’t use random blogs as sources for biological claims.
When guidance changes, so do we
Bird feeding advice is not static. In April 2026 the RSPB substantially revised its guidance following an evidence review with the BTO and the Institute of Zoology — advice that had been standard for decades changed. Pages on this site carry dates, and we update them when the underlying guidance moves rather than leaving old advice sitting there.
On product recommendations
Where we haven’t used a product ourselves, we say so plainly. You’ll see phrasing like “based on manufacturer specifications and how the design compares to alternatives” rather than claims of testing that didn’t happen.
When we have genuinely used something, we say that too, and describe what we actually observed.
