Beakfeeder is a UK guide to the birds that turn up in ordinary gardens — how to tell them apart, how to feed them safely under current guidance, and what kit is genuinely worth buying.
Why this site exists
Most garden bird advice online falls into one of two camps: excellent but overwhelming resources aimed at serious birdwatchers, or thin listicles that recycle the same six paragraphs and link to whatever’s on offer.
There isn’t much in between for the person who’s just noticed something small and brown on the fence and would like to know what it is.
This site tries to sit in that gap. Practical, properly sourced, written in plain English, and honest about what we do and don’t know.
What you’ll find here
- Identification guides — working through the birds people actually struggle with, particularly the brown ones
- Feeding guidance — reflecting the RSPB’s revised 2026 advice, which changed a great deal that had been standard for decades
- Problem solving — squirrels, rats, cats, window strikes, empty feeders, sick birds
- Buying guides — what to look for in a feeder or a pair of binoculars, and what to avoid
How this site is funded
Some links on this site go to Amazon, and we earn a small commission if you buy through one. That’s the only way the site makes money — no sponsored posts, no paid placements, no payment from manufacturers for coverage.
Commission plays no part in what gets recommended. See our affiliate disclosure for the full picture, and our editorial standards for how content is researched.
